This Learning Buddy Packet includes three different activities that will help your students get to know their reading/learning buddies. No more scrambling to have to plan something interesting and fun to keep your time with your buddies meaningful!

Activities included are:

Find Someone Who -- An activity where students mill about the room with their buddy looking for others who match the cues on the page!

Buddy Scavenger Hunt -- An activity where students work together to find the rooms in the school that will have the smiley face card somewhere prominent inside. This card has a number and letter to help them figure out the answer to a riddle after they collect all six letters!

Buddy Bracelets -- An activity where students colour/color and spin a spinner to build a bracelet on a pipecleaner.

The Discussion Game! Students remember and discuss how they have handled emotional situations in the past. Game Rules: One at a time, students pick a card. They tell a story based on what color card they choose. If they chose: Yellow chameleon, they tell a story about a time they had joy, when they were happy. Blue chameleon, tell a story about a time they felt sad. Red chameleon, a time they were angry. Green chameleon, when they were disgusted. Orange chameleon, a time they were surprised. Perspective Taking Game: This or That? Social Awareness and Empathy SEL Skills

Kids to have fun learning about others and sharing about themselves. Students have to think like their peers in order to try to guess what their peers would choose.

This Social Emotional resource contains:

  • 5 sheets of 12 cards with only words (60 pairs total)
  • 1 sheet of 12 cards with only pictures
  • 1 sheet of 12 cards with the same pictures and written text underneath

Just cut along the perforated lines and fold along the solid lines. Then turn the cards face down. Kids take turns picking a card and reading the 2 choices. Then the rest of the group has to try to guess what that player would choose. (Not what they would choose!). The player then tells the group their preference.

Getting to Know You Reading/Learning Buddy Activity Game Back to School

This is a great activity to encourage your students to get to know their reading or learning buddies. This activity includes questions that are easy to answer and help encourage partners to get to know each other and to feel more comfortable. This would make a perfect activity for one of the first meet ups during Back to School!

All you need is to print off the board game page and question cards for your students, and gather up some "gems" (small cubes, beads etc), and some items for each student to use as "player pieces" (small cubes, etc).

Students can play the game with their reading buddy, or pair up with another reading buddy group and have fun learning about each other! This game provides discussion prompts that are easy to talk about.
