February Morning Slides

By Professional Development and Teacher Prep

Do your students need a Question of The Day for February? Using a Question of The Day can lead to tremendous growth academically and socially. The Question of The Day Fun can be utilized during your Morning Meeting time along with your greeting and other activities.

There are Valentine’s Day questions, Black History Month questions, and kindness questions. All of the questions are on a Google Slide and can be used every morning during your Morning Meeting routine. All you have to do is bring up the Google Slide each morning and have the slide ready to go for that day. There are 20 EDITABLE and DIVERSE slides just for the month of February!

Students will create connections and develop deep discussions with the questions.  Therefore, the skills they are learning during Morning Meeting will lead to connections within their reading texts. Students who practice those skills outside of reading will most likely utilize those same skills while reading.

Additionally, the February Question of The Day will create deep relationships between you and your students! If you have the other Morning Meeting Slides than you understand how powerful these questions can be!

This is also an excellent resource to use with your remote learners as well. You could assign one or more slides to their learning management system for morning meetings and writing or reading activities.

“Morning Meeting is an engaging way to start each day, build a strong sense of community, and set children up for success socially and academically.” -Responsive Classroom

“Morning meetings are an excellent way to help students transition from home to school and help them get ready to learn. In addition, these meetings can help you connect with your students, help students build relationships with each other, and promote an overall sense of community in the classroom.” -Centervention

Outbreak of World War 2 Close Reading Activity Digital & Print | 3rd & 4th Grade

By Creative Primary Literacy

A World War 2 Google Forms close reading activity with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task about the events surrounding the outbreak of the Second World War. The NO PREP informational text activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in third grade or fourth grade. The resource, which also comes in PDF format, allows students to learn key facts about World War II whilst working on their comprehension skills.

Included in this resource:

  • A Google Forms Activity
  • A PDF Printable Activity with crossword puzzle & wordsearch

⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻

This resource is great for:

  • Distance learning
  • Independent work
  • Homework
  • Guided reading sessions
  • Assessment practice
  • Reading interventions
  • Emergency sub plans

This activity is an online resource, that uses Google Forms, and is linked to your Google Drive. It can be completed by students online using tablets, phones or computers, and is easily assessed by teachers as all the answers are provided in a quick and easy format.

⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻

Time allowance to complete:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)

FREE Writing Prompt Photos with Audio Soundtrack

By Betsy Newmeyer

This FREE photo writing prompt slideshow is sure to be a hit with even the most reluctant of writers. Each of the 3 photos is carefully selected to ignite the imagination and creativity of the writer, while the accompanying audio and sound effects add a new level of engagement to the experience. The Google Slides presentation requires no prep and can be projected on a screen, interactive TV or smartboard in slideshow (present) mode.

No matter what age, your students will love these 3 creative writing prompts. Simply select a slide to display for your students, turn up the volume as the embedded music starts to play (starts automatically), and then sit back and watch as the creative juices start flowing. Slides can be used to start a conversation, brainstorm ideas for characters, settings, and conflicts, generate a word bank, or inspire an entire week-long writing project.

In my own 5th grade classroom, I like to have my students silently brainstorm ideas before they meet up with partners to build a story. Sometimes we use the photo and accompanying soundtrack as a quick-write while other times we work our way through the entire writing process. Often, I’ll use my interactive TV to record student ideas and capture a word bank directly on the slide before sending the class to their seats to further develop their ideas.

Here's what’s included:

· 3 Google Slide Photo Prompts set to music

· Music starts automatically on every slide

· Teacher’s Guide with lesson ideas

· Terms of Use

Thanks :)
