This basic FSL French bundle is designed to enhance conversation skills and vocabulary. With included writing and project ideas centered around favorite sports, activities and adventure planning, students have the opportunity to practice new vocabulary both orally and in written form. This resource offers a low-prep solution for whole class discussions, partner activities, or even as a substitute plan.

Ask daily questions as "prof du jour" or "bell ringers" on the topic of pastimes and sports

Resource 2: Plan your adventure

This French FSL resource helps to encourage speaking and writing about outdoor sports and activities. There are engaging templates included which focus on planning an outdoor adventure. Students respond orally to each question, as they add on to their “adventure” plan. This “print and go” resource takes the stress out of planning. This could also work as a step by step substitute  plan or an end of year project.

Students enjoy being creative as they add artwork and sentences to their paper bag backpack (templates included as well as other writing options).

Basic Vocabulary:

Outdoor activities

Limited list choices for location and wildlife

Basic personal information (emergency card)

Simple sentence structures (Je veux aller, Je veux manger…)

Helpful with backpack template:

Scissors, glue, tape, colored pencils, printed templates and a paper bag for each student

Resource 3: Plan my adventure beginner to intermediate level

The final resource has several of the same features as the basic 3D paper bag backpack. This resource has more intermediate sentence structure with some editable options. Teachers can change the questions to work with their class. The printable backpack template may also be better suited for older students.

This activity bundle can be done over several classes, by starting your FSL class off each day with a question of the day. Students write a sentence each day to add to the writing templates.

Use these heart BINGO boards to practice simplifying fractions and finding equivalent fractions with students. 

The BINGO boards all contain fractions in their simplest form. The calling cards are fractions that need to be reduced to their simplest form. 

Students find the greatest common factor of each fraction and divide both the numerator and denominator by the GCF to find their answer.  

Differentiated levels to meet the range of ability levels in your class. Work your way through the levels as students become more fluent in the skill of simplifying fractions.

SAVE TIME and ENERGY creating engaging math centers or review games. Use the digital versions for a paperless no prep option. With multiple levels for play, this game can be a staple activity for math centers during the month of February.

Differentiated Calling Card Levels

Calling cards are differentiated by level. Simplifying fractions and finding equivalent fractions can be difficult for students. The differentiated levels will scaffold the skill as students build understanding and fluency with the concept of simplifying fractions.

★Level 1- Double the Simplified form (x2)

All calling cards in this level have a GCF of 2. The calling cards are double the simplified form. Students find the answer by dividing the calling card by 2/2. This level will help students gain an initial understanding of simplifying fractions and finding equivalent fractions.

★Level 2- Mixed Set 1: (x2, x3, or x5 simplified form)

All calling cards in this level have a GCF of 2, 3, or 5.  This level is designed to build off the previous level, but still scaffold the skill. Students only need to choose from 3 factors to find their answer. 

★Level 3- Mixed Challenging Set

This level contains a mixture of fraction call cards that have factors ranging from 2-10. This is the most challenging level as students will have a range of factors to choose from when simplifying the fraction.

All fraction boards include 24 fractions in their simplest form with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, & 12.

WHO? This set is designed for fourth and fifth-grade students learning to find equivalent fractions by reducing a fraction to the simplest form.

Common Core Aligned to 4th grade Number & Operations- Fraction Standard:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.A.1

Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction (n × a)/(n × b) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.

Activity supports 5th grade Number & Operations- Fraction Standard:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.A.1

Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)
