3rd Grade Close Reading Centers

Fall Color by Number Activity Reading Comprehension Worksheet Activities (Main Idea, Details, Ask & Answer Questions, Writing Reflection & 3 different Reading Passages.) This Color by Number activity will engage 3rd—6th graders with topics such as Johnny Appleseed and Fall Donuts while mastering their reading skills.

It seems like every day is National (insert cool thing here) Day. I decided to look into these holidays to bring some fun and excitement back to informational passages. The best part about these units though... they are EASILY enrichable! For example, practicing some yoga with Cosmic Yoga for Kids on YouTube for World Yoga Day, or writing your own fairy tale for National Tell a Fairy Tale Day!

My class has had such a fun time reading these passages and celebrating something each day.

In this unit, you will be given 29 informational passages with text dependent questions requiring short answer responses. Each holiday matches a day in the month of February (the student-appropriate ones).

Please consider that not every day has a holiday that is school appropriate. Not every holiday remains on the same day each year.

All passages are informational based, usually with a history on the day and whatever is being celebrated. Passages have 4-6 questions with a few skills being met:

• asking and answering questions
• main idea
• key details
• making connections
• context clues
• author's POV vs reader's POV
