2nd Grade Measurement Interactive Notebooks

Bring the fun to 3rd grade math lessons on time and elapsed time! Would you love to see your students actively engaged in learning about time and elapsed time? Even looking forward to math block each day as the best part of the day? If so, this high-engagement, activity-driven 3rd grade math unit on time and elapsed time is perfect for you. Yep…a whole unit on time and elapsed time, ready to go! Just print and gather a few handy supplies.

This time and elapsed time unit is designed for high engagement and an interactive classroom. Whether you enjoy breaking your class up into smaller groups to utilize guided math and math centers or you prefer to keep them together for large group instruction, you will have everything you need included in this time and elapsed time unit. Add a few dice and a couple packs of dollar-store playing cards to watch math come alive! 

Each time and elapsed time math lesson includes:

• a mini-lesson so you can model the concept for your students
• a peer practice activity to allow students to practice the concept with classmates
• an interactive notebook entry
• a math game to be played with a partner or group
• a paper assignment for practice or homework
• answer key

To complete your plans for time and elapsed time, this unit also includes:

• an overview of the unit-letting you know which order to teach the lessons
• An end-of-unit review notebook entry
• An end-of-unit interactive review activity
• An end-of-unit assessment and answer key

This is a comprehensive time and elapsed time unit covers the 3rd-grade CCSS for math and math TEKS related to time and elapsed time.

➡️ Find Elapsed Time Working Backward Lesson Plan Game and Activities

This time and elapsed time unit is an effective and easy-to-implement plan to meet the increased expectations for rigor in math classrooms while still feeding your student’s need for play. The lessons and activities in this time and elapsed time unit can each be used independently or woven together into a guided math block.  

An example of a 90-minute daily math block might look like this: 

• Whole group mini-lesson 10-15 minutes
• Peer practice follow-up activity 10-15 minutes
• Group time organization-assign students to groups and front load the directions for small group and station tasks
• Rotating station work-60 minutes broken up into 20 min chunks.
• Station 1: Teacher table-we dig deeper and complete the worksheet, reteaching or extending as needed. (BONUS-I grade the papers as we go!)
• Station 2: Notebooking-students add the INB pieces to their notebooks and work the math included
• Station 3: Game of the day with a recording sheet (sometimes I even send these home for homework so parents can see how much fun their kids are having learning about time and elapsed time!)
