Hispanic Heritage Art Project | Frida & Her Animals | Cross-curricular

By Down in the Art Room

This is a non-traditional Frida Kahlo cross-curricular lesson that elementary students love. Perfect for celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 - October 15, this engaging lesson combines information about Frida Kahlo and her love for animals and combines it with one of her famous self-portraits (The Frame, 1938) while bringing social-emotional learning into your classroom.

This resource includes 3 cross-curricular projects - the Frida Kahlo portrait, a spider monkey, and a macaw drawing project, plus 2 different frame projects to use with the projects.

This resource is in a PDF file and contains 17 pages. It includes:

  • Cross-curricular lesson for drawing spider monkey and macaw with detailed instructions and photos
  • Cross-curricular lesson for Frida Kahlo portrait with detailed instructions and photos
