Solid Read Aloud is a monthly classroom read aloud that focuses on poetry for first, second, and third graders. The following poems and books are used throughout the unit: Bats, Flying Bats, and Those Bats from Can Teach; Stellaluna by Janell Cannon; Bats by Gail Gibbons. The Bat Solid Read Aloud is designed for a week long duration. During this week the read aloud will include: poetry, fiction, and nonfiction selections. Also included, poetry writing connection, graphic organizers, writing project, and art connection. This read aloud plan can easily be extended to fit a two week duration. The read aloud week will culminate with an art project which is used to display the students’ final writing piece. Additional Solid Read Aloud units include: September Solid Read Aloud - Good Neighbor Day Reptiles - October Sundae Day - November April Solid Read Aloud - Earth Day Monthly units will be added throughout the school year. The movie discusses problem solving skills, following rules, working together, growing up, finding yourself, making decisions, and being a good friend. In this product, The Reading Street - What Jo Did is read and reviewed. In this product, students will read the comprehension passage, What Jo Did. Students will review the selection vocabulary words: fouled, hoop, jersey, marveled, rim, speechless, swatted, and unbelievable. Examples of each selection vocabulary word are used in sentences. Students have the opportunity to make up a sentence using each selection vocabulary word as well. Students will review/learn what a fiction text is and will have the opportunity to come up with possible fiction story ideas. As students read the text, What Jo Did, they can answer comprehension questions. They can complete these questions individually, in a small group, or with support. There are several pages of comprehension questions in this packet that differ from the questions asked in the teacher edition. The questions from the text are adapted in this packet to meet each of your student's needs. At the end of the packet, students will answer comprehension questions about the author, Charles R. The questions from the text are adapted in this packet to meet each of your student's needs. In the beginning of the packet, the question, "what is a historical fiction text?" is answered. The selection vocabulary words are also included with this packet. The meaning of the vocabulary word and a picture that shows what each word is is also included. Students will be required to come up with a sentence using each selection word.

In this product, Letter from Denali is taught. In this product, students can answer comprehension questions pertaining to the letter as they read or after they read the letter. They can complete these questions individually, in a small group, or with support. There are several pages of comprehension questions in this packet that differ from the questions asked in the teacher edition. The questions from the letter are adapted in this packet to meet each of your student's needs. In the beginning of the packet, the selection vocabulary words are reviewed along with pictures. Students can then create a sentence using each selection vocabulary word. The question, "what is a letter" is answered.
