Proyecto de AP Spanish: Explora y Comprende el Mundo

Este emocionante proyecto de AP Spanish llevará a tus alumnos en un viaje enriquecedor y educativo a través de un país de su elección. Es una oportunidad para explorar y comprender las complejidades de una nación y su cultura mientras mejoran sus habilidades en español.

Consiste en:

• Selección de un País: Comienzan por elegir un país que les interese. Este paso les brinda la libertad de explorar una nación que les atraiga, lo que hace que el proceso de aprendizaje sea más personal y significativo.

• Completar "My Country Report": Usan la plantilla "My Country Report" para organizar y recopilar información crucial sobre el país de su elección. Este paso los guía a través de aspectos clave y proporciona una visión completa de su país de elección.

• Investigar a un Héroe Nacional: Encuentran a una figura destacada de su país y aprenden sobre su importancia. Esto enriquece su comprensión de la historia y la cultura de la nación elegida.

This AP Spanish® oral presentation project about identity is one of my very favorites!  Your AP Spanish® students will love exploring their own identity and also learning about their teacher's and their classmates’ identities.  Everyone will enjoy this short project! And teachers, you will love this project for 2 reasons; you will get to know your students in a new way and you can combine speaking, listening and writing in one project!

Using the metaphor of an iceberg, students will tell their class about the things that are obvious to all about their identity, and also share some things that hide below the surface.  

As students present, the others take notes on what they reveal. As a follow up assignment, students (and teacher too!) write short letters to each other to acknowledge the courage it takes to speak in public, especially about the parts of yourself that may not be visible to the world. Receiving letters from their classmates and teacher is often something that students will remember forever and treasure. It's a great bonding experience for the class!

The student instructions and rubric are included, as well as some helpful tips about how teachers can make these presentations work either in person or with students online.

How can I use this product?

• This activity goes great with Unit 2: The Influence of Language and Culture on Identity
• I assign this as an interim oral assessment
• Students have several days to organize their thoughts for the presentation
• Students may print the iceberg image and use it to make bulleted notes
• There are many ways to have students present their Icebergs, depending on the size of your class, how much class time you would like to use, and if you students are in person, hybrid or online.  All of the options are explained in the included teacher notes!
• During the presentations, all the listeners take notes on what they hear
• After the presentations, all listeners will write short letters to their classmates
• Collect students' icebergs and hang them up in your classroom!
