12th Grade World Languages Cultural Activities

Need a mini-unit on cultural identity for AP Spanish®?  Here you go!!  This product contains 5 different resources to help you and your students understand cultural identity.  First, there is a great resource for the teacher to read about what things make up our cultural identity.  There are 4 articles for students to read- a great jigsaw activity where groups of 4 each summarize an article for other students!  There’s an amazing audio about how language influences our cultural identity!  *It’s in English, but WELL worth it!  There are discussion questions for small group or whole class chats, and there is a project that asks students to explore one aspect of cultural identity in a Spanish-speaking country and compare it with the US.

These resources are made with Google Docs so they can be edited if it suits your needs to do so!

How can I use this product?

• Have students discuss what deep ideas and values make up cultural identity
• Use discussion questions for small group or whole group discussions
• Use discussion questions as writing prompts
• Listen to the Ted Talk and discuss the insight about how language influences our identity
• Choose one or more articles to read together
• Assign one or more articles to read for homework
• Assign groups of 4; each student in the group reads and summarizes a different article for their group
• Have students explore one aspect of cultural identity in a Spanish-speaking country and compare it to the US
• Any of these activities can be used as classwork or graded assessments
• Edit any of them to tailor the activity to your students!
