French Regular and Irregular Verbs Passé Composé Drill - Listen & Speak
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Practice is what it takes when learning verb conjugations. This audio recorded drill will help students practice and master regular and irregular French verbs in the passé composé. There is a mixture of verbs that use avoir and être as helping verb, and reflexive verbs are included. This is a verb drill of 100 common French verbs that you can use either in the classroom or language lab. I've included five great ways for you to use this drill.
The audio recording you will download will be great for listening comprehension and oral production, written exercises, paired work and even a cooperative learning group writing game.
Examples:
FINIR - JE - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - J'AI FINI
SE LEVER - TU - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - TU T'ES LEVÉ(E)
DESCENDRE - IL - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - IL EST DESCENDU
PRENDRE - NOUS - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - NOUS AVONS PRIS
MANGER - VOUS - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - VOUS AVEZ MANGÉ
RÉUSSIR - ILS - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - ILS ONT RÉUSSI
During the recording the verbs are not numbered so that you can easily choose a group of 10 or 15 at any point during the exercise to use as bell ringer reviews or to get your students in French mode as they enter the classroom. Use this drill at any time during the year as an excellent review. Use it with upper level students who sometimes need to revise the basics or provide a copy to struggling students who can use it as review while riding on the bus or in the car.
Included:
1. Language lab or classroom listening and speaking exercise
Students listen to the drill either as a class or with individual headphones on. They will hear an infinitive and subject pronoun to conjugate.Students are given five seconds to say their answer before the correct response is pronounced. The verbs are purposefully not numbered in the recording so that you can choose to do them either in or out of order. This is a listening and speaking grammar drill and writing the answers is not encouraged.
2. Language lab or classroom silent written exercise
Provide each student with a numbered answer recording sheet. Students should be reminded to pay close attention as the verbs in the recording are NOT numbered. They will hear an infinitive which they should write in the appropriate column. Next they’ll hear a subject pronoun and will be given five seconds to write their answers. Since this is a fast moving exercise you may want to give students a chance to revise their answers once the recording has stopped.
3. Whiteboard classroom activity - Individual or paired work
Have students write answers on whiteboards after they’ve heard the infinitive and
subject pronoun to be used. Pause the recording and give students five seconds to write their answers. When they’ve finished have them listen carefully and check their work when you stop pause and play the answer. This works particularly well with pairs of students because they can help each other and the work won’t seem so tedious. I often allow my pairs of students to keep track of one point per correct answer and at the end of the activity see which group has the most points.
4. Bell ringer activity
You have five or ten minutes to spare at the end of class, so why not play a sampling of the verb drill? With 100 verbs to choose from you could keep it quite varied. Also use parts of the drill as students enter the classroom to get them in French mode. I've found this to be a great way to keep kids quiet as they come in and get settled.
5. Group writing game
Chances are you have your students’ desks in some kind of rows or groups. Here’s a fun way to change up the verb drills a bit. Let’s say you have rows or groups of five students. Before starting the verb drill recording give the first person in each group a blank sheet of paper and he should have something to write with.
Number the paper 1 - 5 (or the number of students in the group) and as you play the drill the first student has to write his answer next to #1. He has to write something even if he doesn’t know exactly how to spell it. Immediately after the answer is pronounced on the recording he must pass the paper to the next person in his group. It’s important not to hesitate because the recording will continue.
Person #2 records his answer and so on until each person in the group has had a go. At this point, stop the recording and the last person in each group brings the paper back up to the first person who can look over all of the answers written by his group members. He can make any changes he wants to make to anyone’s answer BUT STUDENTS CANNOT SPEAK A WORD TO EACH OTHER.
He then passes the paper back down the row and everyone gets a chance to change either his own or another group member’s answer. They should move fast though because here’s the catch, the first group to turn in a 100% accurate paper to the teacher wins that round!

Excerpts from the narration:

What teachers are saying about a similar AUDIO lesson about the airport :
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "The students appreciated the clarity and slower speech. It was a great activity to provide some formative assessment for my students."
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "This was an awesome resource that was perfect for what I needed. Students felt a little overwhelmed at first but they got the hang of it and did great. They felt very accomplished at the end. I used the dictation and gave it to students who were struggling and I gave the challenging listening to students who need a little challenge - so it was GREAT for differentiation."
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "What a wonderful listening comprehension activity/test! Loved having the questions read and the choice of using short answer or T/F! "
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "A great activity that we don't get to do (practice) very often. Unique and helpful."
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "The pace of the speaking in these activities is perfect for my students!!"
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "It's difficult to find authentic resources like this. Thank you for providing one!"
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Kids found this very challenging but it was so practical and a great real life connection."
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. "Good authentic listening activity for my travel unit!"

Advanced French Dictées - Dictation Exercises - Native Speaker
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
This is a set of 20 advanced level French dictées. These dictations are short dialogues between two people, read by François, a native Parisian. The dialogues are read slowly first and then even more slowly to give students time to write them down. Punctuation and links (liaisons) between words are pronounced.
⭐ First reading: Moderate pace, don’t write yet
⭐ Second reading: Slow pace, listen and write
⭐ Third reading: Normal pace, check your work
Have your students equipped with a pen and paper and give them plenty of time to check their work. On the third reading, the dialogues are read at full speed with proper spoken French intonation at the end of each dictation exercise. Students should pay close attention to spelling, gender, plurals and agreements when writing.
Play these exercises in class with a group and self check, use them for assessment, or you can even assign them as homework.
Students can practice repeating the sentences for correct pronunciation. They can even record themselves and compare their pronunciation or work as a group role play.
Sample dictation:
Femme parlant à son mari:
Chéri, tu n'aurais pas dû prendre cette route ! Tu sais bien qu'il y a toujours des bouchons par ici à cette heure-ci.
Homme:
Nous n'avions pas vraiment le choix, les routiers bloquent toutes les autoroutes autour de Paris.
Included:
➯ Audio presentation of the dictées - M4A
➯ Instructions - PDF
➯ Numbered answer key with English translations - PDF
➯ Numbered student response sheet located below the answer keys in the PDF
"Dictation is the transcription of spoken text: one person who is "dictating" speaks and another who is "taking dictation" writes down the words as they are spoken. Among speakers of several languages, dictation is used as a test of language skill, similar to spelling bees in the English-speaking world."

French Pronouns Advanced Level Activity + Listening Comprehension
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Practice French using pronouns in context - Advanced level activity
This is a three part French lesson for upper - intermediate to advanced level students that will assess three different skills: listening, reading, and choosing grammatically correct pronouns in a given context. It is a good idea to wait and have students check their answers once all three steps of this activity have been completed. Once the whole activity has been completed, they may want to go back and change some of their answers before checking them against the answer key. This activity is more challenging than a typical series of sentences pulled out of context. Students will really need to follow the story in order to use the correct pronouns.
This text is written in many different tenses. The pronouns used in this text are as follows:
Included:
Step 1: Listening comprehension
1. Before having students listen to the reading, be sure to have them listen to the audio recording of the comprehension questions to know what to be listening for in the reading. I am including a written copy of the comprehension questions in case your students feel stuck and really can’t understand.
2. Have students listen to the reading once without trying to answer the questions.
3. Pause and replay the parts of the recording they didn’t understand, and remember that many pronouns are being used. They will need to pay very close attention to context. Tell them they'll have an opportunity to change their answers if they want to in the next step.
4. Have them listen to recording of the comprehension questions again, one question at a time. They should try to answer as many of them as they can, and don’t hesitate to go back to the reading to listen again for details.
Step 2: Reading comprehension
1. Students read the text all the way through, then go back and have a look at their answers to the comprehension questions. They can listen to them again if needed.
Step 3: Pronouns exercise
1. Complete the multiple choice exercise.
2. Once they’ve finished the multiple choice activity you can give them a final challenge and have them complete the fill in the blank exercise.
3. Now it’s time for students to check all of their answers using the answer keys provided.

French Expressions, Interjections, and Sentence Starters
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
100 Common French Expressions
Common French expressions, interjections, and sentence starters are a great way to spice up conversations, increase vocabulary, and sound more French. The grammar in these expressions is varied, so this resource is fine for all levels (even beginners).
The idea is to not worry about WHY things are said this way in French, but instead to encourage our students to accept it and memorize these 100 short expressions, interjections, and sentence starters. My students have a lot of fun using these!
All of the words and expressions are spoken slowly, and students are given time to repeat them aloud. English translations are included for all 100 expressions on the video recording. Students will notice that the English versions are almost never direct translations, which is interesting to note! An audio recording is included so you can share this to have your students practice almost anywhere (even on the way to school)!
Included:
How to use the set of practice cards:
Have students print and cut out the set of 100 French expressions cards, and hook them together with a ring. Expressions are written in French at the top, and in English at the bottom. As they practice and master these expressions by using the video and audio recordings, they can test themselves frequently with the stack of cards. When they feel confident with a word or French expression, they can take a pair of scissors and CUT OFF THE ENGLISH translation on the dotted line. They'll eventually have a handy set of French only cards to pull out any time they'd like to review.

French Food - Nourriture Taboo Speaking Game and Question Cards Bundle
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Two of my favorite French food - nourriture speaking activities to keep students engaged, communicating in French, and having fun are included in this bundle. If you are looking for ways to improve la communication orale in your French class, your students will love playing taboo and speaking French together using the question cards! Check out the preview for more details. Save 20% with this bundle.
Taboo is a fun French speaking and listening game where one student has to guess a word based on clues given in French by other students. The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words.
All of the words on each card are written in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students whether they are beginners or very advanced. You can easily modify this game to play it with all levels!
Question cards are perfect for reinforcing grammar, vocabulary, and getting your students to speak French together! Very low prep. Just print and cut out the cards and you're ready to go!
Almost all of the est-ce que questions are asked in the tu form and require students to reply using je. Some of the questions encourage oui and non responses, but never without pushing for a bit more information like asking pourquoi. The questions include le présent, le passé composé et le futur proche.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Love this! Great design, great differentiation of playing for lower levels (or higher levels), and love that there are so many topics! Great words included in each one." - Ashley Lefevre
Question Cards Teacher Testimonial:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This is great for when I do group speaking time. My students move into their groups, choose a card and pose the question to their group. I like to walk around and listen to the conversations and grade using the TALK rubric.” - Ada M.
