World War 2 - Mapping the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor 1941 with Slide Deck

This complete no prep US History mapping of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor activity with an introduction slide deck for middle/high school students of history. Students map the US military locations listed on the task sheet and then use their research to list the US Naval ships lost and the cost in lives as a reflection on the impact of the attack.

Comprising of a single activity sheet with instructions embedded on the activity sheet. Use as A4 or enlarge to A3 (I prefer A3 size sheets). This is supported with an introduction Slide Deck (PowerPoint file)

This resource includes:

  • Editable Slide Decks on: The-Road-to-Pearl-Harbor-US-Japan-Relations (PowerPoint)
  • A4 Pages worksheets (Easily enlarge to A3)
    • Students map and annotate list of US military sites in 1941
    • Student instructions embedded onto worksheet
    • Students research and list the ships sunk but he Japanse noting their Name, Class and loss of lives.
  • Lesson Plan for a 50 minute lesson

This DBQ will engage your students to examine the propaganda of WWII, the Holocaust, and Hitler’s reign.

SS.7.C.2.11

Analyze media and political communications (bias, symbolism, propaganda).

Document Based Questioning

What will the students learn?

The students will be learning about how the propaganda of the time influenced the people throughout Germany as Hitler came of power. They will understand that at this time Germany was facing a hardship and Hitler gave the people of Germany a group of people of where to place the blame.

How will they learn it?

The students will answer the following DBQs while the teacher displays and discusses the document on the SMART Board.

How will you know that they have learned it?

Students will apply their knowledge in their Final activity by making connections through DBQs and the Holocaust testimonies under "stories."
