By Mark Barrett
This is a 29-slide PowerPoint presentation which considers why Donald Trump won the 2024 US Presidential election.
It is suitable for all students 14+ in Politics or Citizenship classes.
Introduction: The presentation starts with an overview of the election results, highlighting the contentious nature of the election and the significant public and media attention it received. It also mentions Trump’s unexpected victory and the various factors influencing the electorate, including political, social, and economic factors.
It considers things like the handling of Key Issues and Policy Stances: Trump’s stances on key issues such as immigration, healthcare, and foreign policy resonated with voters. He emphasized a tough stance on immigration, proposed healthcare reforms, and prioritised American interests in foreign policy.
The PowerPoint also considers the reasons for Kamala Harris’ loss including perceived ineffectiveness as Vice President, campaign strategy and messaging failures, lack of enthusiasm and voter turnout, negative media coverage, and internal party divisions.
The PowerPoint ends with some issues to think about and these may form the basis of discussion or debate,

Fourth Amendment "Fake" Supreme Court Case Analysis
By Nemos Nook
Introduce your students to the complexities of Constitutional Law with this engaging and interactive activity! Students will step into the shoes of Supreme Court Justices to analyze a fictional Fourth Amendment case. This is a fun activity when teaching about the Fourth Amendment and/or the Supreme Court.
This product has students analyze the interactions during a routine traffic stop between police officers and a citizen. The citizen alleges Fourth Amendment violations during the stop and brings the case all the way to the Supreme Court. Students then have to write an "opinion" of the Court and present to the class or submit for a grade.
The case is based on a recent Supreme Court opinion discussing Fourth Amendment Rights and unreasonable searches and seizures.
This can be done as a group or individually as a short assessment. The resource includes:
(This activity is not necessarily looking for a correct answer, but is looking to assess how well students understand and can analyze the language of the Fourth Amendment based on a given set of facts).
This can usually be done in one 50 minute class period.
This resource is for personal use in one classroom only. Please do not distribute

The Debate on Affirmative Action
By Sarah Austin
Affirmative Action had been a contentious issue in the United States since the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's. The Supreme Court’s 2023 decision to reject race-conscious admissions at colleges and universities around the nation upended decades of law and the higher education landscape. This lesson will invite students to draw connections between the past and today, as they take a focused look at affirmative action as it applies to admission programs at universities. Students will be provided with an introductory framework from which to understand the historical roots of affirmative action and its' controversial application today through the analysis of primary sources, research, and student-led discussion forum activity.
