Spanish Culture Points Project
By Churros and Croissants
The Spanish Culture Points Project is a student-centered cultural project that puts students in the driver's seat! This was one of my students' favorite projects to complete because it let them explore their own interests. It was also one of my favorite to grade because each one was different!
Students pick from tasks relevant to them like music, cooking, history, etc. Each tasks has points assigned to it so they must complete enough of these small tasks to total up to the grade they would like to receive (generally 4-5 tasks).
This project worked great for middle school and lower levels of language but could be adapted to upper language levels as well.
Duration varies. I assigned this as a take-home project. Several tasks can be completed in school, but not all. We took a 90 minute block period to present to the class. Some classes where students brought in speakers lasted longer.
Includes rubric to total points gained for project.

In this project, students will interview 2 adults that they know. The topic of the interview will be how jobs relate to our quality of life. Best of all, students will have the opportunity to interact with adults in their community and practice important life skills like formally thanking people for their time! When the interviews and article write-ups are complete, a vibrant class discussion can take place as you talk about everyone's findings, take-aways and important learning! Spanish Verb Tenses Project for Review
By Specialty Spanish
This Spanish Verb Tenses Project is perfect to review all the tenses students have learned! Spanish students will write sentences in the present, past and future related to themes that are familiar to them. The rubric will provide fast and specific feedback so students can fix any mistakes! Students can complete this verb tense project individually or in groups. Teachers may assign this as one big project or in smaller parts.
Though teachers can customize (and either add or reduce these tenses), students will create 5 slides, each with 6 sentences. The 6 sentences represent the 6 tenses students have learned so far (present, present progressive, preterite, imperfect, imperfect progressive and future). Students choose a theme for each slide, such as travel, summer, food, etc. They write sentences in each tense to practice 1) how to form each tense, 2) connecting the name of the tense with what it looks like and 3) what each verb tense means in English. Students can customize the design of each slide as well! Students can keep their completed project for future reference as they continue their language learning.
The rubric is designed for teachers to tell students which slide and which tenses on each slide are correct or have an error to make feedback fast and specific!

Spanish Video Project Tourism Ad for a Spanish-Speaking Country
By Specialty Spanish
This FUN and motivating project will get your Spanish students doing some presentational speaking for a real-world purpose! Students research the tourist attractions of a Spanish-speaking country and create an ad. The purpose of the ad is to attract more tourists, but the purpose of the project is for students to learn about the wonderful places in the Spanish-speaking world and to encourage them to put these places on their "must see" list! All parts of this activity are customizable to make them just right for your students.
In this mini-project, students will choose a Spanish-speaking country. They will research the "Can't Miss" tourist destinations of the country in-depth. Next they will find images of the places and important information about the places and use them to create an advertisement. Student have many options for how they would like to put their TV ad together, including Google Slides, Screencastify and others. The goal is to make an ad that the target audience can't resist! This country is the NEXT place they plan to go on vacation!
One thing I've struggled with in the past is students not using class work time well. To solve this, I created a timeline that explains what should be accomplished during each work period. It has been very successful in terms of students being on task during class work time, and has reduced the amount of "last minute" project completion that often results in low quality work. The timeline is now included with this project!
Depending on your class size and other factors, students can share their work in 3 ways:
-instead of recording their audio into their commercial, they can present live!
-they can record their audio, and the teacher can play each one for the class
-*This is what I usually do! I ask students to set up their computers on their desks, open to their presentation. Students switch seats and watch a number of ads that their classmates created. It ads more student choice and more engagement!
