French New Year Vocabulary Scattergories - Categories Game - Nouvel An

Play French scattergories when you need quick, no prep activities to play with your class while they practice their French New Year / Nouvel An vocabulary, oral, and written skills. These categories games includes many activities with a French New Year vocabulary theme which work well as ice-breakers.

Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them!

12 games are included with 48 different categories! You can either print out the game sheets or project them to save paper and ink. For younger students you can allow more time for them to think and write, while older students will love the challenge of the timer.

Your students will love playing this game with their classmates, and it will save you a lot of time when looking for just the right activity to keep your students engaged. This game is perfect for avoir expressions quiz and test review, and a list of expressions used is included in French and English (see list below).

If your students haven't learned some of the expressions, you can give them the list to review before playing or even let them keep it out during the game except when it's their turn to play. This game is editable if you would like to omit or add certain expressions. 20 Questions Game - French Valentine's Day - La Saint Valentin

Looking for a fun game to get your students speaking French? Use this game to have students practice forming questions and speaking French using vocabulary for Valentine's Day.

Included:

French and English version

French only version

Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the game and do a whole class activity.

This game includes 40 words. Many of the words will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words.

One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.

EST-CE QUE…….

… tu es une personne?

… tu es un animal?

… tu es un minéral?

… tu es un endroit?

… tu es un aliment?

… tu es une plante?

… tu es un objet?

The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT

Alternative game play:

To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.

While it is good to have students come up with their own descriptive sentences in French, sometimes it's just as great to have them read descriptions aloud to each other. Students will see advanced grammar in use and will understand new vocabulary words through context. This is a unique way to improve when students have already been exposed to a lot of grammar. Here are a few examples:

⭐ Les voyageurs m'aiment beaucoup parce que je suis très utile quand on veut parcourir de longues distances. On ne me conduit pas. On me pilote. Qui suis-je?

⭐ Je suis un avion!

⭐ J'existe pour aider les gens qui ne voient pas très bien. Ils me posent sur leur nez. J'ai deux verres pour les aider à mieux voir. Qui suis-je?

Are you a French teacher looking for an engaging Mardi Gras activity to get your French students to build their communication skills and vocabulary? Taboo is a fun French speaking and listening game where one student has to guess a word based on clues given in French by other students. The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words.

All of the words on each card are written in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students whether they are beginners or very advanced. Classic French Taboo Games Bundle - 3 Versions

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

French Verb Apprendre - Present Tense Conjugation Board Game and Worksheet

Just print and go with this French board game and worksheet activity to conjugate the verb apprendre in the present tense. The board game includes 37 numbered boxes. The first player to reach box 37 wins. No prep for you! Take a look at the preview for full details on everything that is included, and save with the bundle!

Board Game: Some boxes require students to conjugate the verb using the provided subject pronoun, and others require them to name the subject pronoun that matches the verb conjugation. Lots of repetition will really help them to memorize the French verb apprendre in the present tense. There are a few fun tricks along the way, so getting to the end isn’t always so easy.

In groups of two to four, players take turns rolling a die to move their pieces forward. Spaces are numbered to keep track of which way they’re moving. There are some spaces with special instructions:

Départ - Start
Avance de 5 cases - Move forward 5 spaces
Recule de 5 cases - Move backward 5 spaces
Rejoue - Play again
Tu perds ton tour - Lose a turn
Fin - End

For an extra challenge and to extend playing time, you can tell your students that they have to land directly on the last square and answer it correctly to win.

Worksheet: One page worksheet - Half of the page requires students to fill in subject pronouns, and the other half requires them to conjugate the verb. This is a great way to prep for the board game!

French Dots and Boxes Game - APPELER - PRESENT TENSE - No prep printable

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure and pronunciation for the target vocabulary and grammar when teaching present tense APPELER with and without negation. This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the verbs on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most. Everyone loves a good game of BATTLESHIP, and the French classroom is a better place than any! You can use this classic game format to practice forming the PRESENT TENSE of REFLEXIVE VERBS. This resource includes 40 verbs. Just print out one page of the version you want to use per student. Students place boats (which are squares on the game sheets that they will have darkened with a pencil) on the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats. This game is also part of my Reflexive Verbs BUNDLE - $ SAVER
Subject pronouns are written in the vertical column and infinitives are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say the subject and correct verb form in the present tense. All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet and it is all in French. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids and a line separating the two. Students can fold the paper on the line if they want to. One of the grids is for a player to place his boats and the other is to mark and keep track of his opponent. You and your students may also enjoy my collection of reflexive verb resources sold separately.
