Students can be paired to help them practice these forms of basic dialogue. These cards can improve speech and language skills, communication skills, and social interaction with other students. You can:

  • Cut them out and put them on a ring.
  • Laminate and then cut them out for optimal quality.

  • Show your students an emotion card and ask them to write or discuss examples of situations that would cause someone to feel this way.
  • Show your students an emotion card and ask them what they would say to someone who is feeling this way. (This activity can help students develop and practice empathy.)
  • Show your students an emotion card and ask them to share their personal experiences of when they felt or experienced this emotion.
  • Put students in pairs or groups and give them an emotion card. Have them discuss different situations that would cause someone to feel this way (or experience this emotion.) Next, have them create a skit where they can perform the situation and emotion in front of the class.

What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from Kindergarten to Grade Three will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.
