For Any Grade Applied Math Internet Activities

Next dollar up Life skills Listen and count to $10 Digital resource

By TamiaDesigns

This online, self-checking, listening activity hosted at Boom Learning is designed for students who are working on the skill of paying to the "next dollar up", whether they are elementary students learning about money for the first time or older students working on a functional life skill, as well as being useful for English language learners who are practicing recognizing numbers. Students see a picture of an item on each card and click on the speaker icon to hear its price. They have to "pay" for the item using the next dollar up strategy by dragging the correct number of bills to the counter.

Directions, both written and audio, are included on the first slide:
" Listen to the price of the item on each card. Drag the correct amount of money onto the counter to pay. Remember to count to the next dollar up! If the price is $2.99, you have to hand over $3. If the price is $6.50, you have to pay $7. "

This activity is very similar to another Boom card activity I have listed in my store. The other activity has the name of the item and its price written on the card as well as the speaker button to hear the price.

If your students need practice working on counting money to reach a specific total, you may like this activity as well. Instead of "next dollar up" students have to count out the exact amount, with dollar amounts ranging from $0.60 to $14.99.

Next dollar up Life skills Counting money to $10 Digital resource @ Boom

By TamiaDesigns

This online, self-checking, digital activity hosted at Boom Learning is designed for students who are working on the skill of paying to the "next dollar up", whether they are elementary students learning about money for the first time or older students working on a functional life skill. Students see a picture of an item on each card along with its name and price. They have to "pay" for the item using the next dollar up strategy by dragging the correct number of bills to the counter. They can optionally listen to the name of the item and its price - a useful feature for English language learners if they don't already know how to say the names of the items they are "buying". Directions, both written and audio, are included on the first slide:
" Look at the price of the item on each card. Drag the correct amount of money onto the counter to pay. Remember to count to the next dollar up! If the price is $2.99, you have to hand over $3. If the price is $6.50, you have to pay $7. "

This activity is very similar to another Boom Card activity I have listed in my store. The other activity does NOT have the name of the item and its price written on the card - just the speaker button to hear the price.
