How can you use this resource?

(More ideas included in your download)

Build all the task cards in one sitting. This typically takes 1 – 2 hours to complete the set.

Have the task cards available alongside STEM and STEAM bins, makerspaces, centers, tubs, busy boxes, morning baskets, or available for early finishers to complete using any available materials. Students can even draw their creations instead of building them!

Use one card/Google Slide a day during morning time. Have students fill out a STEAM / STEM worksheet with some of the challenges that require more problem solving and creativity.

Use them for public speaking practice. Allow students to build as many cards as predetermined, followed by show and tell with the class, or their families. Use the Discussion Questions to help guide this portion. Students can practice speaking and listening skills, using loud and clear voices, and giving full attention to the speaker. Encourage students to ask questions to their classmates.

Perfect for partner or group work! Allow students to work with partners, or in groups with specific roles as they problem solve together.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do I think you will love this product, and what makes my challenge set unique?

This challenge task set does exactly that through the loose wacky stories where they are the main character! Silly scenarios, adventure and disaster, problem solving, and learning, are all part of the experience when completing these challenges.

✈️The only rule is to HAVE FUN and allow those imaginations to soar!

Lately, upsetting things have been happening in the world and our students are very much aware of them. Tens of thousands of people have protested on the streets to make their voices heard about all kinds of issues that students care about including racism, inequality, policing, discrimination, etc. Protests have spread across the nation and seem to rival the historic demonstrations of the Civil Rights Movement. It is important for us to bring these topics into our classrooms—because students want to be part of the conversation and share their thoughts and feelings about the very issues that affect them.

These activities can foster great discussions and help students explore questions like “What is the root cause of violence?” “Are nonviolent protests always the best way to achieve change?”, “Is violence ever justified?”, “What factors make protests effective?”, etc.

These activities are also designed to help students analyze past and current protests and demonstrations and consider actions they might take around the issues they care about. This resource features 48 Protest questions that can be used as writing prompts, discussion/debate questions, or both! These questions encourage students to think deeply about protests, the root causes of them, their experiences with them, the effectiveness of them, how they compare to the protests of the past - AND SO MUCH MORE! These questions can spark some deep conversations among students. Without a doubt, these questions give students an opportunity to share their feelings and thoughts about the protests they have been witnessing.

These Protest Writing or Discussion Prompt Questions would make an AMAZING supplement to any lesson and can be used in a variety of ways.

The Break Down:

✅ 48 Protest Question TASK CARDS (Color / BW)

These Protest Writing/Discussion Question Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, or even one-on-one with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian! You can organize them in a binder ring.

✅ 48 Protest Question Worksheets (same questions in the Task Cards)

This resource also includes 48 Protest Writing/Discussion Question WORKSHEETS with lines, so students can write their responses. It's a great opportunity for students to reflect about their own perspectives of protests and share their feelings about them. These Worksheets are included in PDF and GOOGLE SLIDES versions! Text boxes have already been added to make it easier for you and your students!

These worksheets are great for “Quick Writes,” Do Now activities, Note-Taking/Reflection periods, Formative Assessments, or can simply be used as part of a larger lesson or discussion!

✅ 48 Protest Writing/Discussion Question Strips

These sentence question strips are beautifully created and feature the same protest questions in the task cards and worksheets. They can be cut, distributed, and/or be used in many ways including distributing one or two to each student to think about, share their thinking and perspectives with a partner, randomly choose a strip to answer, etc.

✅ LIST of Protest Questions
Also included is a 2.5-page LIST OF PROTEST QUESTIONS to allow easier access for teachers to read and select questions to work with. It’s like an overview page of the protest questions listed in the Task Cards, Worksheets, and Strips.

  • The letter to parents comes with a boy, girl, and gender-neutral version (the pronouns are changed throughout the letter). This letter has three color background options and the corresponding backgrounds and clip art in black and white. Including all versions of the parent letter (gender, color, black and white), there are 12 pages.
  • The letter to students comes with three color background options and the corresponding backgrounds and clip art in black and white. Including all versions of this letter, there are six pages. Just for reference, the font is Miss Kindergarten by Kimberly Geswein and the size is 14.
  • BOTH LETTERS ARE ORIGINAL! I have NOT copied a letter that I found online and retyped it. This is important because you may want to mix things up and send a new letter home this year.... none of your parents will have seen this one (at least in 2016, as it was created in June 2016).

END-OF-YEAR LETTERS FROM THE TEACHER:

  • These editable end of year letters to students and parents include an encouraging letter that teachers can send home to parents as well as a letter that teachers can send home with students (each letter contains a different message and is ORIGINAL).

Note: This letter does not require a gender option since the teacher uses the pronouns "you" and "I" throughout the letter.
  • THE BODY OF THESE LETTERS ARE NOT EDITABLE! All versions of each letter have editable text boxes in the Greeting Field and the Signature Field. You can edit these two places on each letter if you choose. If you'd like to print the letters as is, you may write in the student's name and your own signature. Just for reference, the font is Miss Kindergarten by Kimberly Geswein and the size is 13.
  • BOTH LETTERS ARE ORIGINAL! I did NOT copy a letter that I found online and retype it. This is important because you may want to mix things up and send a new letter home this year.... none of your parents will have seen this one (at least in 2016, as it was created in May 2016).
  • If you have any questions about this product, please ask prior to purchasing. If you aren't sure how to edit text boxes, I've included a page of instructions at the beginning of the product for your convenience.

If you have any questions, please ask me prior to purchasing!

AND AGAIN IN CASE YOU MISSED IT... IF YOU TEACH MORE THAN ONE GRADE LEVEL, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BUNDLE FOR MULTIPLE GRADE LEVELS BECAUSE THE LETTERS FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL AND THE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL ARE THE SAME! Please message me if you are interested in more than one grade level and I'm happy to create a custom bundle for you.

  • If you have any questions about this product, please ask before purchasing. If you aren't sure how to edit text boxes, I've included a page of instructions at the beginning of the product for your convenience.

If you have any questions, please ask me before purchasing!

AND AGAIN, IN CASE YOU MISSED IT... IF YOU TEACH MORE THAN ONE GRADE LEVEL, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BUNDLE FOR MULTIPLE GRADE LEVELS BECAUSE THE LETTERS FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL AND THE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL ARE THE SAME! Please message me if you are interested in more than one grade level, and I'm happy to create a custom bundle for you.

NOTE: THESE FILES INCLUDE A DIGITAL DISTANCE LEARNING OPTION!

These products include a digital option (as well as the no prep printable option). The digital portion instructions appear at the end of each packet.
