A World War 2 biography writing unit about the life of British wartime Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. The NO PREP unit has been split into four separate lessons and is perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

ELA - Expository/Explanatory Writing Using Human Rights

This unit was designed (and taught) for a grade 5-7 mixed ability group.
If you want to get your students to think about the world around them and understand that everyone in the world has the same rights, but not everyone actually gets those rights, this is the unit to do this. Using explanatory writing as the genre of writing, students learn about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, while learning how to write different explanatory writing formats.
This unit includes links to required media, a teach guide (with 21-day timeline) and a student book to get you started. The final assessment questions are also provided. Rubric/success criteria are to be developed with the class (I do not provide rubrics because of the differences in curriculum).

Writing a play is a perfect project that gives students time to write about an event that happened in their life or an event that they made up. Once they are finished, they can share it with different groups of people and have their friends play each character. This packet includes information to share with your students about what a play is, what steps to follow when writing the beginning, middle and end of a play, why we write a play, who we write a play for, and tips to look for when rereading and editing. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to write with a play using a graphic organizer and an example of a play. On the last several pages, two templates are included to help students write the rough draft and final draft of their play that includes space for characters, props, act, scenes, and lines to show what their characters are saying.

Firstly, there are sixteen reading comprehension activities, or informational texts, about:

- An Overview of the War
- Dunkirk & The Battle of Britain
- The Blitz
- The Eastern Front
- Pearl Harbor
- The Battle of Midway
- The Holocaust
- VE Day
- VJ Day
- Adolf HItler
- Winston Churchill
- Franklin Roosevelt
- Joseph Stalin
- Benito Mussolini
- Hirohito
These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.
Then, there are two biography writing units about Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler, and two informational writing units about an Overview of World War II and The Holocaust. The units have been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately an hour each.

Writing an informational essay is an important writing project that gives students time to conduct research on a specific topic that is of interest to them. Once they are finished with their masterpiece, they can share it with their friends and family members. This product includes information to share with your students about what informational writing is, why we complete informational writing tasks, what steps to follow when writing the introduction/lead topic sentence, subtopics #1, #2, and #3, and the conclusion to form a strong essay on a topic, how to make our writing flow so that it makes sense to the reader, and tips to look for when rereading and editing. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to complete an informational essay. Using this guide, students will write and complete a simple or complex informational essay. An example of a completed graphic organizer, an example of an informational essay, graphic organizer template, and two rough draft template that can also be used as a final draft template is included with this packet as well.

This World War 2 bundle contains a timeline display and sorting activity, sixteen close reading activities that look at the key leaders and timeline World War II; two biography writing units about Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler; an opinion writing unit about the most influential allied leader; and an informational writing unit about World War II.

Firstly, there is a great classroom display and sorting activity that is perfect for introducing students to the key events of World War 2. There are 42 posters or cards that include many of the key events from the Second World War. The posters look great as a display in the classroom and the cards are a brilliant introduction to World War II. The displays and cards come both with dates and without dates, so the students can research the dates online before sorting the timeline. The cards look even better when laminated.
Then, there are sixteen close reading activities, or informational texts, about:

Finally, there is a discussion based writing unit discussing who was the most influential leader from the war. The unit has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.
