Projectable Handwriting templates for Canva
By TamiaDesigns
Do you need to demonstrate correct letter formation? Fed up of writing handwriting lines on your whiteboard? Use these files to project the lines onto a regular whiteboard to use while demonstrating correct letter formation. Based on feedback from classroom teachers, I've provided 5 different styles of handwriting "paper", each in their own file, to match whichever handwriting program you use.
The first four files contain two versions of the "paper": one with a single line for writing and space to illustrate; the other with 3 lines to write on. The 5th file looks like "regular" notebook paper and is ideal for projecting to demonstrate where students should write their name, date, title on the paper, how to align their writing to the margin, as well as how to indent paragraphs or use the margin for question numbers, WHY we don’t use the bottom edge of the paper as a line and to demonstrate appropriate size of handwriting relative to the lines – not too big but not too small. Yes, I’ve done all of this this with flipchart paper, but with less money in the budget for supplies every year, it’s nice to have a reusable digital option! Click on the Preview file to see what they look like.
These files were originally created in Jamboard. I chose to replace the Jamboards with Canva files when Google announced that Jamboard would be disappearing because, unlike Google Slides, Canva has a built-in pen tool, like Jamboard’s. As an educator, you may qualify for the “Pro” (paid) version of Canva at no cost, but these files will work perfectly well with the free version. If your students are using computer or an iPad, you can share the file with them the way you share any Canva file. Please check before buying whether your students have access to Canva if you want to to assign the files to your students like this! It will definitely work best if students have access to a touchscreen computer or iPad, but it will work with a trackpad too. I do NOT recommend using it with a mouse!
Say it! Spell it! Check it! Editable online activity for spelling practice
By TamiaDesigns
This interactive online activity, uses Google Slides for students to practice spelling, and is a great center activity. It is a template that you will customize with your own students' spelling words. Each slide has a set of alphabet tiles, with 10 copies of each letter. Students can drag these letters to the “work mat” to spell their words. (Just like magnetic letters but without the hassle of having to pick them all up and put them away when you're done, or wonder where all the 'e's went to!) You will get access to 6 Google Slides files with different colored backgrounds, and three different sets of letter tiles - all black, black with red vowels, and black with red vowels plus a red 'y' for when 'y' makes a vowel sound.
You can use these files on an interactive whiteboard in the classroom, or you can share them with students and give them each their own copy (good for an in-class activity that requires no printing or for distance learning.) You could combine the digital activity with a paper-based one and have students copy the words they've built onto a piece of paper.
To use these files, you will need a Google account. I have a Canva version of this activity in my store with the additional feature of allowing students to write the words with a pen tool as well as building them with the letter tiles. (Note that not all schools allow access to Canva for students - please check!)

Word sort Google Slides editable no-print digital center activity
By TamiaDesigns
This Google Slides file provides you with several ready to go word sort activities but, more importantly, it is very easily customizable so you can quickly and easily include exactly the words and sorts that you need YOUR students to work on! Unlike a paper-based sort, if a student does not finish this activity by the end of center-time, they can come back to it the the next day and all the pieces will be exactly where they left them - no more lost words that got cut and dropped on the floor before they could be glued in place! You can even quickly differentiate by adding or removing some words for certain students to raise or lower the bar. Great for English language learners who are working on new vocabulary! You can even use these templates to sort images rather than words.
