Use the chant to "Freeda the Cheetah" to explore movement and play along with rhythm sticks. Follow up with a lesson on rhyming words. The chant for "One Lonely Fish" is perfect for keeping a steady beat and making this book more engaging for your little ones. A wonderful book and extension lesson to teach children about caring for others! Use this book to deepen social emotional learning in your classroom while still teaching music. Discuss why hugging and caring for others is important, how children feel when they hug/are hugged by someone and practice caring by rocking stuffies/dolls to the song that I wrote for this book. Additional chants are great for practicing rhythm, steady beat, ta and ti-ti and triplet rhythm decoding. There is even a worksheet for additional practice which can be used digitally. Listening to classical music has been shown to help with self-awareness, empathy, and self-regulation. Since social-emotional learning is essential for children, incorporating classical music into your classroom or homeschool is a great way to support their development.

Talk about the emotions evoked by the selected music. What does the music make them feel? Happy? Sad? Anxious? Peaceful? Help students identify and label their emotions. Ask open-ended questions about the music and encourage students to share their thoughts and feelings.
