Reading and math centers are an important part of many elementary classrooms. As teachers, it can be challenging to ensure that our students are on task during center time. One way to help with this is by using paperless morning meeting center rotation slides.

Center Rotation Slides

Using paperless morning meeting center rotation slides with a timer helps structure and focus students’ center time while providing necessary support to help them complete tasks independently during reading centers or math centers. Slides provide visuals and clear directions that students can follow along, allowing them to access information easily. Additionally, the timer lets the students know when they need to move on from one task to another so they don’t get overwhelmed or bogged down in one activity for too long. This helps keep their minds engaged throughout center time and encourages them to work at a productive pace. 

Reading Centers or Math Centers

In addition, having visual prompts throughout the slide presentation is helpful for younger learners who may need more support completing tasks independently during reading centers and math centers. You can insert clipart or images from Google to help students who cannot read what the center is. 

Another important aspect of the timer is that it will hold you accountable for your guided math and guided reading groups. It will keep you focused and intentional with the group you are with and allow you time to meet with all of your groups.

There are 15-minute timers, 12-minute timers, and 10-minute timers that can be used for reading or math centers. Delete the slides that you do not need. If you need more than four rotations, you can duplicate the slide. If you need more than four groups, duplicate the bar, create more squares, and move or make the timer smaller. 

Overall, using a slide presentation with a timer during reading and math centers can be incredibly beneficial for both teachers and students alike! It keeps everyone organized and provides direction so that learning objectives are met in an effective manner. So why not give it a try today?

 There are additional timers for 5 minutes in the slides for cleaning transitions, shorter center time, buffer time between subjects or a special, a challenge, group or independent work.

This math game focuses on counting to 100, recognizing which numbers are bigger or smaller than others, and putting them in order, whilst at the same time thinking about place value. Students turn over, or reveal, a pair of digits, decide what number to make with them and place the number in an appropriate place on the number line. The goal is to fill the number line while discarding as few numbers as possible. You will get both a printable and an online interactive version of the game!

The game can be:

• played online independently or with a partner
• played on paper, independently or with a partner
• projected for a larger group

See the preview video for how the online game works. The paper version works in a similar way, with students turning over number cards when it is their turn to determine what number to write on the line.

The printable version of game provided allows you to customize the game so students are organizing numbers to a smaller total than 100 or between a range that you choose, such as 0 – 20, 0 – 50, or 20 – 70.

This Jeopardy game is a review of Math content in 2nd grade. The categories include Base 10, Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Geometry/Measurement & Data, and Word Problems. It is completely interactive. No need to scroll through all the slides, you just click on the points for whatever category that you like and it will take you right to the question.

This would be a great product for a review at the end of the year for 2nd grade, practice during summer school, and even a pre-assessment for 3rd grade to see what your students know coming into the school year.

These addition math centers allow students to practice addition fluency, comparing sums and related facts with this set of addition flash cards and addition mats. This set contains addition problems with sums up to 20, but can also be differentiated for students needing sums within 10. There are sorting mats for students to sort problems by sums and to compare problems to see is they are greater than, less than or equal to other addition facts. Practice related addition facts by using the corresponding addition problems on the sorting mats.

Uses for this product:

• Use the number cards to sort the facts by their sum.
• Use the addition mats to sort math facts
• Create a greater than, less than and equal to activity.
• Give students a group of addition cards and have them put the cards in order from least to greatest.
• Play concentration/memory where students must match the sums to get a pair.

Google Slides Version

This Google Slides activity set contains four differentiated assessments for related addition facts and comparing sums. Each set helps students practice addition facts and fact fluency as they determine the related facts and compare the sums of various addition number sentences. Each activity is available in sums within 10 and in sums within 20.

• Related Facts - Click on the related addition fact.
• Equal Equations - Click on the addition fact that is not the same as the other sums.
• Comparing Sums - Click the symbol that makes each number sentence true.

Need an awesome Art Unit? I have just the thing for you! This creative Mandala Design artwork was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I did a demo and taught the class how to use a ruler and a yardstick. Measurements and Math was a strong focus of the lesson. Next, students spent the rest of the first lesson brainstorming an idea for a stencil (¼ of their full Mandala Design. I taught the students how to rotate their stencil to get a Radial Design. Students started on their Final Copy paper and outlined their drawing in sharpie marker. We used large windows to trace our stencils on the final. Students used colored pencils, colored sharpies, or watercolor paint to color their Mandala Design. I hope you and your kiddos love this!
