These journal prompts for 4th grade and up include a coloring doodle border which adds a mindfulness component to each quick write prompt.

Each creative writing prompt appears on a half sheet of paper as well as on full color and black and white cards.

You will also find a quick lesson on mindful coloring.

Please make note of the following:

• Each prompt allows you to include a mindful coloring component. The border included with these daily quick write journal prompts can be colored before the student answers the prompt (sometimes this gives students time to reflect on what they’d like to write) or after they’ve finished writing.
• This activity can be used for students as an early finisher activity, a daily journal, for morning meetings, lessons on building community (and empathy), or for mindfulness practice. Please see the instructions for teaching students about mindfulness that are included in this file. If you are interested in additional mindfulness and meditation exercises, click HERE.
• In addition to the written response pages, I’ve included prompt cards in full color and in black-and-white. These are useful if you choose to discuss the prompts as a class or in small groups. You can also place the cards in a special location and allow students to choose one they’d like to write about on a separate piece of paper.
• Please remember that some students may not feel comfortable answering or sharing responses. It is important to respect their privacy without pressuring them to share. Either allow them to keep their response(s) private or to choose a different prompt. Forcing the issue will erode their trust in you. Let them know that they are free to share in the future, if they choose.
• It’s okay to take these cards home to share with your family, your own children, your spouse or significant other, or your friends. In addition to providing individual reflection, they are designed to help people get to know each other beyond the surface, develop empathy, and dive deeper in their relationships. I truly believe that when you REALLY get to know your students, they achieve great things!

These easy to use, no prep, Christmas substitution plans give you an ideal back up plan to have ready in your classroom just in case. The bundle contains three close reading activities about Christmas Around the World, Santa Claus and Ebenezer Scrooge, as well as two biography writing units and one informational writing unit. Ideal for emergency sub plans in third grade or fourth grade.

Firstly, there are three reading comprehension activities, or informational texts, about:

• Christmas Around the World
• Santa Claus
• Ebenezer Scrooge

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Then, there are two biography writing units about Santa Claus and Ebenezer Scrooge, and one informational writing unit about the traditions of Christmas around the world. The units have been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Four William Shakespeare play scripts re-written to be suitable for young people aged between 9 and 14. All four have a mix of Shakespearean and modern English. The play scripts are usually priced at $4.75 each.

The first is a play script for Hamlet. There are 15 speaking characters, with roles for up to 30 students. The second is for Macbeth. There are 18 speaking characters, with roles for up to 30 students. The third is A Midsummer Night's Dream. There are 26 speaking roles with parts for the whole class. And, the final one is for Richard III. There are 20 speaking characters, with roles for up to 30 students.

The play scripts are Ideal for theatre performances or plays, reading activities or guided reading sessions. They are also ideal for older students who need to know the story better without getting wrapped up in the difficult language - Shakespeare is easy to understand if you understand the story!

What Do You Do With a Problem? by Kobi Yamada is a new picture book that works perfectly in conjunction with What Do You Do With an Idea?. This literature unit is appropriate for 1st-4th grade. Note: Picture books are generally most appropriate for primary grades, but the concepts presented in 'What Do You Do With a Problem?' are appropriate for any age, so this unit is designed to reach students a bit older than the average picture book audience.

What Do You Do With a Problem focuses more on the concepts presented in the story and less on the content (although there are comprehension questions included in list form as well as task card form). In addition to the task cards and printables, you will also find a variety of tasks where students can practice finding opportunities in real life problems as well as a growth mindset reflection page. Instructions are also included on how to set up a "Problem Patrol" in your classroom to assist students in solving problems (or receiving suggestions on how to manage problems). My hope is that this product will help your students learn how to find the gems of opportunity in problems. There is also a focus on how to deal with worries that students can control and worries that students can't control (and would even be perfect for a counselor who is facilitating a group for students that focuses on anxiety, worries, or problem-solving skills). What Do You Do With a Chance?

This growth mindset literature unit for What Do You Do With a Chance? by Kobi Yamada is a perfect for 1st-4th grade. This new picture book works perfectly in conjunction with What Do You Do With an Idea? and What Do You Do With a Problem?. The activities in the literature companion focus more on the concepts presented in the story and less on the content (although there are vocabulary words and comprehension questions included in list form as well as task card form).

In addition to 10 vocabulary cards, 14 discussion question task cards, and various printables, you will also find a variety of tasks where students can reflect on taking risks. Taking chances (risks) is a necessary component of growth mindset instruction. Please check out the preview for What Do You Do With a Chance prior to purchasing.

My hope is that this product will help your students understand the benefits of taking risks. They will also learn that making a mistake is an amazing opportunity to learn something new. These activities are perfect for teachers or counselors who are helping students develop a growth mindset and understand that it's okay to take risks, or chances, even if there is a possibility of failure.
