Take your Art room to the next level with this cross-curricular collage project for upper elementary students. Perfect for Hispanic Heritage Month, Day of the Dead, or anytime, this project has it all - high student engagement, multi-disciplinary and cross-curricular, differentiation strategies for reaching all learners, project examples, ideas to incorporate this lesson into centers, and much, much more!
I love doing this project in October leading up to Halloween because this artwork produces a great seasonal multicultural display that is tied to Día de los Muertos (and not Halloween). Hispanic Heritage Month ends a few weeks before Day of the Dead and this project integrates them perfectly!
This resource is in a PDF file and contains 20 pages. It includes:
Using this lesson is also a great way to assess your students' fine motor skills, creativity, use of materials, and so much more. It is designed and has been used with 3-5th grades but is adaptable for middle school. This lesson includes TEKS (if you are in Texas) and National Core Arts Standards for 3rd-5th grades.
