Create a scaffolded remediation activity for students struggling with the standard that progressively builds their understanding through concrete examples and visual representations. Design the activity to include immediate feedback loops where students can check their work at each step, with increasingly complex problems that apply the standard in real-world contexts. This resource is designed to help students analyze and compare the themes of survival and deception in two distinctly different texts: Homer’s "The Odyssey" and Suzanne Collins’ "The Hunger Games." The objective is for students to identify these themes and their social relevance, making connections to contemporary issues. Throughout the resource, students engage in various activities such as matching literary terms to their definitions, comparing societal values in Ancient Greece and Panem, and examining how characters use deception as a survival strategy. Special focus is given to identifying key excerpts from the texts that highlight these themes, encouraging critical thinking through guided discussions and reflective writing prompts.
