This lesson is intended to be an introduction to the topic and was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in high school as well.  This lesson could be used in a science, history or technology class and is appropriate for Earth Day.  It is also a great lesson to leave for a substitute teacher!

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

The Arctic!

Geographical web quest which introduces kids to the region of the Earth known as the Arctic. There are 14 web quests(with lots of information in the questions), Did You Know? facts, comprehension questions(including several "thought question"), a teacher page with a number of extension activities, additional links and key.

Great for a Friday activity, before a vacation, or when you are looking for a geography resource.

This high-interest WebQuest will get students thinking about the impact of climate change on other people. There is an article explaining that humans have been migrating because of climate-related issues for years. Then they will dig deeper by reading articles and answering questions about the more recent impact climate change has had on human migration. There are links to two articles; one with excellent graphics, questions for students to answer, answer sheets, a mini-poster, and a tip and suggestions sheet for the teacher.

Her book, Silent Spring, sparked concern in how chemical pesticides were harming our environment. Carson helped to start the environmental movement in our country, which led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In less than 30 years, the numbers of giraffe have drastically decreased by almost 40 percent. That makes giraffe in more danger of extinction than the elephant. In 2014, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, estimated that there are only about 80,000 giraffes in the wild. In 2019, nations of the world moved to classify giraffes as an endangered species. A committee at the World Wildlife Conference approved the protection with a vote of 106-21. The main cause for their dwindling population is destruction of their habitat, climate change and worsening drought and illegal trade of giraffe body parts. Additionally, civil unrest in the areas where giraffes roam are also causes for their declining numbers. Learn about the giraffe with this web quest!
