Hatchet Novel Study - With Lesson Plans and Slideshow

By A Teachers Sidekick

This is a novel study of Gary Paulsen's Hatchet. In this product, there are completed lesson plans (and a blank one if you need to write your own), a slideshow that includes everything for each chapter (introduction, review of content, copy of the doodle notes, copy of the end of chapter activity/discussion outline, and the closure question), the Doodle Notes outline for each chapter, and the End of Chapter/Discussion activities. This novel study is for 4th-grade to 7th-grade students.

In this novel study, students will practice central idea/supporting details, writing summaries, citing evidence from a text, making inferences, analyzing figures of speech, describing story elements, cause/effect text structure, problem/solution text structure, and multiple opportunities to practice discussions with their classmates.

A large part of this novel study is discussion-based. I have included a slide on the slideshow where you will put your classroom expectations for discussions. There are also times for the introduction to the chapter, you will start with a whole group discussion. (I would maybe recommend turn and talks if you use groups in your classroom)

I hope you enjoy it. Please send me any questions that you may have and please rate and review.

DESCRIPTION

There are six different SETS of Making Inferences Graphic Organizers AND six different SETS of Making Predictions Graphic Organizers that are created in different formats/variations to support differentiation for students!

► These graphic organizers are designed to support students in making inferences and predictions using any text under study. As they read, students use clues from the text (text details) to make evidence-based inferences and predictions.

► This is an excellent tool to set a "purpose for reading" and keep track of what's happening in texts as well as encouraging students to actively engage in reading!

► These Graphic Organizers can be used as part of a larger lesson, as formative assessments, with whole group instruction, small group instruction, and with novel groups/literature circles. These graphic organizers can also be assigned as a "Purpose for Reading" during silent reading time, classwork, or homework!
