This product features an engaging "Christmas Talk" activity that will have your students thinking, writing, collaborating, speaking, and moving around in one class period! In this activity, they must choose between 5 different quotes from famous figures about Christmas and articulate why the quote aligns with their own perspective about the holiday. I use this lesson every year during the week leading up to Christmas vacation to make sure that my students take some time out of their hectic lives to consider what Christmas truly means not to society, not to others, but to them.

⭐ Christmas Collaborative Writing Activity:

"Christmas Collaborative Story Time" is a communal story-telling activity in which students practice using Freytag's Pyramid plot structure in their own narrative writing. In this activity, each student begins a story inspired by a unique Christmas picture or photograph. With this intrinsically engaging activity, each student has the chance to tap into their creativity while applying knowledge of the 7 steps of Freytag's Pyramid. It is a great activity to introduce or reinforce the plot diagram and is perfect for getting students in the Christmas spirit. Since it runs itself, the lesson is also great for substitute plans or on those days when you need a quick plan to get you through the day. I trust you will find that your students will ask for this activity again and again!

⭐ The Little Match Girl Sensory Details Lesson Plan:

This product features 3 engaging, differentiated activities that focus on the rich sensory details of Hans Christian Andersen's devastatingly beautiful fairytale, "The Little Match Girl." The activities span before, during, and after reading the story with the intent to not only identify the sensory details, but to analyze their importance and how they add to the reader's experience with the tale and the little match girl herself. The activities support multiple learning styles so that all students walk away from the story with an appreciation for this heartbreaking tale and empathy for those less fortunate during the holiday season.

⭐ Christmas Quote Posters from Literature - newly added!

Make your classroom pop this Christmas season with this set of 25 beautifully-made posters featuring Christmas quotes from literature. Each 7.5 x 7.5 (square) PDF poster contains a noteworthy quote imposed over a stunning photograph that will spruce up your ELA classroom during the month of December. The square format makes for an eye-catching arrangement on your wall or bulletin board. I suggest laminating the posters so that you may use them year after year!

⭐ BONUS: Christmas Figurative Language Practice (included for free):

This resource features an engaging, Christmas themed worksheet to help students practice identifying figurative language. This can be given at the start of class, end of class, for homework, as part of an emergency substitute plan, or as part of a stations activity. Kids can never get enough practice with figurative language and this is the perfect worksheet to work on during the holiday season.

Winter Holiday Math Task Cards Multiplicative Comparison Word Problems 4th Grade

By SPO Resources

Engage students in winter math activities with this set of holiday-themed task cards for solving multiplicative comparison word problems. 24 task cards to practice solving math story problems available in digital and print options.

Students will solve one-step multiplication & division story problems involving multiplicative comparison and determine if they need to multiply or divide to find their answer. (4 CHALLENGE problems with multi-steps). I purposely mixed up the multiplication and division math word problems on these task cards as the objective for students is to identify the correct operation.

Task cards include the following question types:

The unknown is the greater quantity.

  • Grace has 20 pens. Ana has 4 times as many as Grace does. How many pens does Ana have? 20 x 4 = a

The unknown is the lesser quantity.

  • Grace has 20 pens. That is 4 times as many as Ana. How many pens does Ana have? 4 x a = 20

The unknown is the multiplier or comparison statement.

  • Grace has 20 pens. Ana has 5 pens. How many times more pens does Grace have than Ana? 5 x a = 20
